Upcoming Arboretum Classes

One bonus of yearly membership in the Evergreen Arboretum is our engaging, informative classes. While available to the public for a fee, classes are free for members! You can JOIN right here on our website.

Many of our classes are held in the Arboretum itself, like our pruning classes, while others are held in the Arboretum Portable to the left of the entrance. They are very popular, so pre-registration is required. Class times vary, but the joy of gardening is a given!
Summer Pruning
Saturday, July 18, 12-2 PM

Learn proper summer pruning techniques at this hands-on workshop. Trevor Cameron, general manager of Sunnyside Nursery, will discuss basic rules of pruning, concentrating on two major categories pruning of spring blooming shrubs (rhododendrons and azaleas) and thinning of trees for summer health and lasting beauty. Bring pruners and questions.  Meet at the arboretum front entrance. Members free, Non-members $10.

Hardy Fuschias
Saturday, August 15, 1-2 PM

Hardy fuchsias are vigorous, medium-sized deciduous shrubs noted for their handsome arching growth, long blooming period and hummingbird attracting flowers. Learn more about these exceptional plants from self-described “Fuchsia Nut”, Tammy Brown. Tammy is a member of the Northwest Fuchsia Society (NWFS), President of the Fuchsia Society of Bellevue and Olympia, and the manager of the upright and hardy fuchsias at Earthworks Fuchsias in Covington. Fuchsia plant starts will be for sale after class along with a tour of the arboretum gardens. Meet in horticultural classroom #105. Members free, Non-members $10.

Putting Your Garden to Bed
Saturday, September 19, 1-2 PM

Learn from an expert. Master Gardener, John Marsh, will share his wealth of information about what you need to do this fall in order to get your garden ready for winter. He will cover a range of topics on perennials, shrubs, soil improvement, mulching and so much more. Getting your beds cleaned up before the winter cold and rain will give you a jump on next spring’s chores. Meet in horticultural classroom #105. Members free, Non-members $10.

Beyond Daffodils
Saturday, October 17, 1-2 PM

Bulbs slumber well under Pacific Northwest soil before bursting through with color when the weather warms. Come learn from Snohomish County Master Gardeners about a variety of spring blooming bulbs and how to care for them. Stay to help plant bulbs after class in the Arboretum.See Special Events for details. Additional specialty bulbs will be available for sale. Meet in horticultural classroom #105. Members free, Non-members $10.

Savvy Succulent Centerpieces
Saturday, November 14, 1-2 PM

What will grace the center of your table this holiday season? Want to get inspired and make it yourself? We have just the class for you. Award winning container designer and owner of Savvy Gardens Rachel Zeutenhorst, will demonstrate how to make seasonal succulent centerpieces. She will have plants for sale and a few finished containers. Members free, Non-members $10.
