Horizontal Rock Garden


This unique garden showcases numerous miniature specimens including conifers, shrubs, perennials, grasses and groundcovers laid out in the cracks and crevices of some beautiful huckleberry basalt stones that surround "Roundness of the Horizon - The Fossil", by Katzutaka Uchida. The background plantings in this garden offer year around interest using a combination of foliage, texture, form and color.

  • Ilex x "Rock Garden" A diminutive evergreen garden Holy that matures at less than one foot tall.
  • Picea abies "Pusch" This conifer is a dwarf spreading Norway spruce that features red cones in the spring at the terminal branches.
  • Spiraea japonica "Little Sizzle" Creating an edge planting this exceptionally tough and compact deciduous shrub has orange turning to yellow spring foliage.
