Gardening with Native Plants

  • Online United States (map)

From the dry and rocky serpentine soil of the Siskiyou Mountains to the wet and lush Olymic Mountain Range this class will introduce you to native plants of the greater Pacific NW region worthy of growing in the garden. From the east side of the Cascades to the west we will focus on plants less commonly found in the garden setting that have great potential. This presentation will also introduce you to Great Plant Picks and the native plants which are in that program.

Del Brummet is the head gardener of Elisabeth C Miller Botanical Garden, which holds a variety of native plants from endemic plants of Washington to rare selections. Del studied Biology at the University of Washington where he worked researching native plants and their requirements for seed germination. Through years of hiking and identifying plants he has gained and appreciation for the conditions wild plants grow in and how to use this information in the garden setting.
