In 2023, Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens turns 60 years young. Events are being planned to celebrate, and the first will be “Out on a Limb, poetry in the trees”, co-sponsored by the Everett Public Library. Two dozen selected haiku and/or micro poems will be stamped on clay tablets and hung from the limbs of trees along the pathways of Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens at 145 Alverson Boulevard in Everett, WA.
The deadline for entries is December 16, 2022. Any age can enter, but no more than two entries per person please. Entries must be short, either haiku (17 syllables in a 5/7/5 pattern) or micro poems (which should fit within the confines of a tweet or SMS message). Judging will be done by a committee appointed by the Arboretum board.
Entries must have a nature theme, but need not reference the Arboretum. Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens reserves the right to display any entries in ways it finds appropriate for the event.
April 2023 is National Poetry Month, and the exhibit will run throughout the month. A grand opening and additional events in the planning stages. The Arboretum is free to visit and open to the public from dawn to dusk every day, as part of Legion Memorial Park.
The mission of the Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens is to create and maintain an inspirational arboretum and gardens accessible to all, internationally acclaimed and locally enjoyed for its plant diversity, original art and educational opportunities.
