Rhododendrons 101 with Bob Zimmermann

  • VIRTUAL CLASS www.epls.org (map)

Join Evergreen Arboretum & Gardens and the Everett Public Library for an introduction to rhododendrons!

Bob Zimmermann is the owner of Chimacum Woods, a rhododendron nursery. He will introduce the basics of the plants for gardeners. This program will also describe the cultures and politics associated with exploring the habitats of species rhododendrons and will consider the spirituality of these amazing plants. Experience the siren song of the rhododendron with us!

Bob Zimmermann has been growing rhododendrons for over 50 years, since rooting a cutting on the kitchen gas stove got him hooked. He started Chimacum Woods as a rhododendron nursery on the Olympic Peninsula in 1976 and began to concentrate on species in particular. Chimacum Woods grows most of our plants from seed in order to keep as much of the gene pool preserved as possible.

Zimmermann has made eight trips to Tibet, China, Japan and Arunachal Pradesh in search of rhododendrons. He enjoys making these plants available to gardeners.

This program is free and open to the public. It is co-sponsored by Evergreen Arboretum & Gardens and Everett Public Library. Click here to register.

As a companion event on Saturday, May 15th, the public is invited to come to the Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens at 145 Alverson Blvd in Everett at 10 AM to watch as we plant several species Rhododendrons from Chimicum Woods Nursery. Masks required and social distance observed.
