Two-Day Sculpture Exhibition Aug 19-20, 10 AM - 5 PM Featuring Carving Workshops & Artist Demos
This is the third year of our a captivating two-day outdoor sculpture exhibition offered in conjunction with Northwest Stone Sculptors Association (NWSSA). This event promises to once again be a feast for the senses, showcasing an array of exquisite sculptures created by talented member artists of the NWSSA. The exhibition will be open to the public from 10 AM to 5 PM both days, allowing ample time to explore the stunning gardens, interact with the sculptors, and admire the diverse range of works displayed on plinths throughout the venue.
Attendees will have the unique opportunity to witness creative artist demonstrations on both days. The Arboretum will host one demonstration, while a second demo will be held downtown at our Fresh Paint booth near the Schack Art Center. These demonstrations offer an immersive experience, allowing visitors to witness the artistic process firsthand and gain insights into the techniques employed by these talented sculptors.
Please note that the Arboretum will close to the public at 5 PM on Saturday to accommodate a private evening event.
In addition to the exhibition and artist demos, Evergreen Arboretum will host two stone carving workshops on Saturday, August 19th. These workshops are open to ages 9 to 99 and will teach participants the art of carving animal shapes from soapstone. Workshop #1: 10 AM - Noon and Workshop #2: 1 PM -3 PM. Members of the NWSSA will provide hands-on guidance, demonstrating stone filing techniques and helping each participant create their own unique sculpture. The workshops will take place outdoors in the upper parking lot of Evergreen Arboretum Classroom 105. Participants are advised to dress appropriately for the weather and wear clothes that can get dirty. The tools used in the workshop are simple and safe, and all necessary supplies will be provided.
To secure a spot in the youth stone carving workshops, pre-registration is required. Please note that a non-refundable prepaid materials fee of $30 applies. To register, please visit: https://www.evergreenarboretum.com/store/carving-soapstone-animals-workshop-1-2dwzp
